Fiji Island is one of the most beautiful and "untouched" paradise in the world. But what makes Fiji exceptional isn't just about how beautiful the place is; but it's her people. They probably are one of the nicest and friendliest people that constantly bombard us with BULA!s and genuine smiles!
When I first got started with my business in 2012, I had a lot of difficulties to even just invite someone to sit down and listen to what I had to share. Especially to my own friends because I was a student who had no experience and completely no credibility to talk about business. Even if by some chance I do get someone to sit down, I wasn't able to convince them that I had a great business idea that they can venture into. People don't join you because of your business, people join your business because of you. So how do you get people to join you even when you have no credibility?
There was once where I met a very direct and straight forward lady at cafe cartel in Plaza Singapura. She dressed sharp, looked confident and the first thing she said to me was "Ok you've only got 5 minutes. Tell me what you've got". At that time, I was pretty intimidated and nervous. But somehow, halfway through the presentation, I unconsciously used some of the statements and words I read from a book the night before; and I could tell from her facial expression and body language that she was impressed. Even though she didn't join, this experience gave me a valuable insight.
I went home, took out my books, wrote down some impressive words and incorporated them into my presentation. They weren't fancy and pretentious words, they were just simple business words to make me appear smart and knowledgeable. Some examples were "scalability", "leverage", "cash flow", "perpetuity" etc etc. After enough practice, I became very fluent and natural in using words like this. The people who understood these words were impressed; while the people who don't, will pretend to act as if they do, which puts them on a defensive mode; and my credibility wouldn't even be a question.
Very often, we get nervous about telling people how big and incredible the potential of our business when we ourselves are not even making any money especially if we just got started. With no results and no credibility, how to get people to believe and join me?
But one day, it dawned on me that I am a work in progress on a direction towards a huge dream, a vision that is way bigger than most people whose future in the next 10-20 years was to continue the same thing working and paying bills every single month. Because of that perception, I started becoming more confident not because of my current situation, but because of where I was heading and will eventually become. I started talking, sharing, and casting my vision and it never failed to make me enthusiastic and excited whenever I talk about it. The right people started joining me because they catched on it too and they were also excited about the vision and direction that we would be heading towards together.
Narrow minded people only see what you have right now. They can't see ahead. You don't need these people in your business. So don't be ashamed of what you don't have right now. Be proud of where you are heading, and be proud that you are on a direction towards something way bigger than most people dare to ever dream.
Although I had no success story nor any results in the beginning, but I know people who do. Even though they don't know me, I still took the initiative to ask them for a picture together and if they could share with me their story. People who are successful would usually be glad to share their story especially if it's of any help to anyone.
What I did was posted the pictures of us on Facebook and Instagram and shared their story. Friends in my social media would than associate me with multiple successful people which in turn associated me as someone credible too. That gave me leverage to easily invite people out. There was even once where someone privately messaged me to ask me meet up because of my associations and she even signed up!
During my presentations, I would also show the pictures and share their stories as well. This would not only allow me to show that I am associated with people who already have the credibility, but also at the same time, I wouldn't be perceived as someone arrogant as I am not blowing my own horn. Even today, I am still using this powerful method and even teaching it to my team as it is easy to use and easily duplicable. Alot of times, people's perception of your value is based on who they perceive you to be associated with.
"If you find that this article could add value to anyone, especially to the people who just began their entrepreneurial journey, feel free to tag, comment and share!"
In July 2012, a bartender once told me what I'm doing was illegal, he was going to file a lawsuit against me, and I'm going to prison. I was scared to death at that time that you should have seen the look on my face!
Today, after 28 vacations, it's still around, the lawsuit didn't happen, and he's probably still in his own mental prison. Never buy a person's opinion unless you want their lifestyle.
People use to say I wasted 7 years of my life addicted to playing a game called "DotA". I believe that everything happens for a reason and one particular reason was that through those 7 years, I learnt one very important lesson; Complacency. There were countless of times even during a Grand Final competition where we were winning by a huge and ridiculous margin but because of complacency, we lost the game.
Losing is no big deal. But losing because of complacency will haunt you forever. We lost so many times due to complacency till the point that we were more afraid of our own weakness, than the strengths of our opponents.
Those 7 years have gave me such an invaluable lesson that it trained me so well to instinctively never get complacent no matter how high we climb and how far we go in our business or anything in life. So embrace whatever happens to you; because it is happening for a reason
It started out as just a dream... a dream to take my mother to visit the Niagara Falls one day. However, this dream became a reality where not only did I bring my Mum, but also my Father together to visit 5 states, 4 Great Wonders of the World, 2 Helicopter rides, and 1 epic life-time experience.
If you have a dream, fight hard for it. Irregardless of how people look at it, make fun of it or laugh at it. Because while they still think it's impossible, you are living it.
I realized that to become rich and get out of the rat race is technically easy. There's literally no competition and it doesn't take much education. All you have to do, is to be aware of those who have already gotten out, take their advice, pay attention and model their activities rather than listen to those who give free opinions but are not living it.
A lot of times our dreams are stolen because we take advice from the wrong kind of people. Cheers to a new week to do something different!
I once learnt that the formula for Financial Success = Vehicle x Effort x Skill. So if you want to retire earlier & become financially free, you've got to make use of the proper vehicle. It's the same as getting to Brazil from Singapore, you drive a plane; not a car.
Because of this formula, I learnt that even if I become an exceptional employee or self-employed; no matter how good, hardworking, and how skillful I am, there's always a limit to how much I can make. Because my earning power is completely dependent on the number of hours I work, and since I only have 24 hours a day like everyone else, my earning potential is limited. One of the most powerful word I've learnt was from a book by Robert Kiyosaki, the author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad was this word called "Leverage". The word simply means doing less and less, to achieve more and more.
"Humans have gained more of an advantage over animals simply because humans naturally seek more and more leverage. In the beginning, animals could run faster than humans, but today humans can travel faster and further than animals because they created tools of leverage, such as bicycles, cars, trucks, trains, and planes. In the beginning, birds could fly and humans could not. Today, humans fly higher, further, and faster than any bird. Eventually, animals lost their natural advantages over humans and humans took over the planet. The same thing happens when some humans use more leverage than other humans. Saying it more simply means, "Leverage is power."
- Extracted from the book by Robert Kiyosaki
Understanding this, if you want to retire earlier and become financially free, you have to understand and apply leverage in building your wealth. There's 2 ways to do it:
1. Leverage on a system to make money for you
2. Leverage on money to make money for you
If you realize, these 2 ways make money for you even while you are sleeping and once the amount replaces your full time income, you achieve financial freedom.
I was a 24 year old student who understood this, but didn't had the money to invest in anything and didn't had the knowledge nor experience to develop a system. Thankfully, a friend of mine shared with me a business idea which which required only an investment of $500. Because of the business leverage, I have achieved complete financial & time freedom when I was 26, allowing me to travel the world, while still having an asset generating me a passive stream of income every month way more than what I could earn as an employee who works 40 hours a week, even while I'm on vacation.
Make the right choice to work hard in the right direction rather than working hard blindly. So first thing first, find the vehicle that gives you - Leverage.
I hate doing paperwork.
I hate quotations.
I hate having to spend my life building other people's dreams.
I hate having to fight with others to apply leave.
I hate having to ask for permission to take toilet and lunch breaks.
Most of all, I hate "Monday Blues"!
I'm glad I made a decision 2 & a half years ago to focus all my time, attention, energy and patience to learn, to train, and to be good at a platform worth getting good at. Thanks to that decision, I have gone on 19 vacations, developed an enormous growing passive income, and most important of all, I have officially kissed all "Monday Blues" goodbye!
It's very true when they say that "The 2nd greatest fear we have is death. The 1st is public speaking." The first time I did it was in front of close to a hundred people about 2 years ago in year 2012. I was forced into it and was afraid to reject and say no. I remembered so clearly that day when I was so nervous and everyone was looking at me with a confused look as I was stuttering as I was kind of talking and laughing to myself.
But as time goes by, I got better as the people in my company believed in me even when I didn't believe in myself; and kept giving me the opportunity to do it over and over again even though I screwed up a lot of their presentations. People today find it hard to believe that I was once afraid of public speaking and was a lousy speaker; but it was because of the amazing company that helped me overcome my greatest fear which in turn allowed me to believe that anything is possible.
My recent speech in front of 4000+ people made me look back on how far we have come and I believe that this company is a gift; a gift that i hope that will reach out to millions of people all over the world through the merging of great life experiences, financial opportunity, personal development and contribution to achieve Fun, Freedom and Fulfillment.
I used to believe in luck. But the past 2 years made me realize that nothing happens by chance... but by the choices we make.
This marks my 18th vacation in the past 18 months because of one decision I chose to make 2 years ago! Looking forward to our next big trip where this time, I'll be taking my mum Wendy Hui and my dad Jeffrey Lee along to take the helicopter and fly right beside "The Statue Of Liberty", taking the "Maid Of The Mist" into the Niagara Falls, and taking the helicopter and land right in the middle of "The Grand Canyon"!
But always remember that whatever choices you make, begin it with the end in mind. Because at the end of the day, you will get the one thing that matters the most, the thing you cannot put a price on; and that is the experience you gain through the journey.
